Here is a list of items to verify when trying to figure out why the sales tax calculation returns $0:

  1. The Customer does not have “Use Avatax” checked in Customer Maintenance


  1. The Customer has ‘Tax Exempt’ checked.  If the item(s) is shipping to an alternate address, then the alternate address has ‘Tax Exempt’ checked




  1. The State / Province that the item(s) is shipping to is not in the list of Nexus states in the Tax Configuration macro in Customer Maintenance (including alternate shipping address(es))


  1. The state / province is not configured as a jurisdiction in the Avalara Admin Console
